WSJ.com features Matt Paxton from Clutter Cleaner in “turning messes into success.” This is a great article with an accompanying slide show that shows how messy some of our hoarding jobs can be.  If you’ve ever been interested in working with Clutter Cleaner this is a must read. Dystel sold world rights to Hoarders by Matt Paxton, the host of the A&E show of the same name, to John Duff at Perigee. Perigee is the trade paperback division of Penquin Publishing (www.us.penquin.com). Every week Paxton cleans up the houses of people with this rare dysfunction, while also helping them deal with the psychological reasons behind their inability to throw stuff away; the show is A&E’s most popular, with roughly three million viewers. Paxton is co-writing with Phaedre Hise, and the book, subtitled True Stories of Tackling Extreme Clutter, will explain the disorder, how to diagnose it, and how to cure it. Click here to learn more.

We have won a Muse Award honor from the VMFA! We couldn’t be more flattered or excited to receive this award. All the staff have worked very hard to get to where we are and are so proud to do great work and be recognized for it. We were in good company with other Richmond area business winners at the event last night. What a fabulous celebration. Here are a couple of photos of us. We wanted to share our big smiles!

Matt will speak at the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired on June 24th. The students who participate in this Health Education Series are between 20-60 years old and will look for Matt to share how easily clutter can take over your life and how much healthier and less stressful it is to keep organized and on top of things.

Matt loves participating in these local educational classes and helping programs like the ones at the Virginia Rehabilitation Center. If you’d like him to come speak to your group or organization, please call or write. We are happy to schedule a time for him to participate!

 The Muse Awards program celebrates creative innovation in Virginia businesses and helps connect the corporate community with the museum as a major resource for creative inspiration.

So? 

We find out at the awards “Un-Gala’ on June 16th if we are the winner. We are super excited and of course VERY flattered. Thank you VMFA! And to whomever nominated us? We hope to find out who you are at the event!

We were so excited when volunteer Ann, from the Maymont Foundation approached us about saving lawn and gardening items from our clients to donate to the annual Herbs Galore & More fundraising event this spring! Our clients were thrilled to know that some items they didn’t need or use anymore could go to an event that raises money for such a great organization. The Clutter Cleaner crew was happy to collect and store what ended up being a big ol’ truck full of fantastic stuff that we dropped off to add to the sale. The event was a wild success! The skies looked a bit rainy, but weather held off for a huge attendance of people on the hunt for goodies.

We’re already looking forward to collecting items for next springs sale and working with all the wonderful staff and volunteers at Maymont. Special Events Coordinator Roseann Walling just sent us this photo show from the event that we just had to share with everyone. Enjoy!

If you decide you have had your fill of sun, beach, and bbq and are going to hit up the couch for some tube and relaxing- make sure you tune into A&E this coming Monday. From 8am to 11pm it’s a HOARDERS marathon. The marathon will be a recap of seasons 1 and 2. A brand-new episode will air at 9pm and at 10pm to close the marathon there will be a follow up show. (A check back in with all the previous season 1 Hoarders to see how they are doing now.)

If you have missed any of the episodes this will be a great way to catch up or if you haven’t tuned in at all yet- watch! You will be hooked.

After Author Tim Sanders’ keynote address at the annual NAPO convention in Columbus Ohio, he asked Clutter Cleaner owner, Matt Paxton to do a video chat/interview with him. Watch the interview here.

Tim is a smart and interesting guy to say the least and has written a few incredible books on business practices. We are big fans.

Matt has a great interview with Holly, an advocate for LGBT equality in Richmond. He shares information about his background, odd things some people have hoarded and how clutter Cleaner got on TV.

Here’s an interesting q&a session with Clutter Cleaner Owner Matt Paxton and fans of the A&E show HOARDERS. Matt is a host on the show and these online boards are a place where fans can write in with questions about specific episodes.

A Virginia Council on Aging program hosted a talk about the psychological disorder of hoarding recently with Matt Paxton as the featured speaker. Video and interview can be seen here.

The Richmond Times Dispatch featured this article with 6 year old Berkleigh Cook telling Clutter Cleaner owner Matt Paxton she was “in charge” while cleaning up her play room. In the end, this adorable little girl gave in to donating some of her toys. Matt promised her the Clutter Cleaner crew always finds good homes for the donated items. Other kids would be able to use the things she was giving up. She was happy with that.

A local daily business news website published a story about Clutter Cleaner in August 2009. The article talks about a few of our field jobs and how being on TV featuring stories of hoarding will start to help people understand it better.

We worked on an episode of A&E’s HOARDERS, in April 2009 filming in South Alabama helping Paul Hamman clean up his property and thousands of pounds of scrap metal. View the article and a bit of video from Paul’s area local news website.

Clutter Cleaner will be represented at the 34th annual Richmond Home & Garden Show – scheduled for March 5-7 at the Richmond Raceway Complex, with about 40 other participating Hanover County businesses. Read more in this article from The Mechanicsville Local.

Clutter Cleaner is sponsoring the Hokies v. Hoo’s Food Fight to support the Central Virginia Foodbank. “Hokies vs ‘Hoos” is a collaboration between the alumni groups from VA Tech and the University of Virginia in the metro Richmond area. The goal of this partnership is to utilize the rivalry between these two universities, alumni, families, and friends to benefit several local charities. Both schools will work closely to promote service in the spirit of competition, and, of course, to claim bragging rights!
